State Aligns Branding Initiative with Regional Efforts

Governor sought input and comments from New North leaders

DE PERE, March 6, 2008 – On the heels of Governor Jim Doyle’s announcement to develop a new brand for Wisconsin, business leaders from the New North announced today that they are excited about the state’s work and Governor Doyle’s effort to reach out to the region.

“Governor Doyle has been one of our strongest allies and supporters as we’ve looked to create a brand for our region and collaborate on regional economic development activities,” said Jerry Murphy, executive director of New North, Inc.

“The state’s brand platform ‘Originality Rules,’ has the potential to elevate Wisconsin regionally, nationally, and even internationally, while showcasing some of Wisconsin’s incredible regions like the New North.”

New North, Inc. will continue to build on the state’s efforts when they roll out a new regional recruiting campaign that highlights the people and the communities of Northeast Wisconsin. The organization plans to launch this campaign early this spring.

“The state brand focuses on the people who make Wisconsin what it is, and plays exceptionally well into virtually all of our initiatives and our overall branding message of why the New North is ‘North of What You Expect,’” Murphy said.

New North, Inc. is a regional collaboration effort focused on promoting regional cooperation and economic development in an 18-county region in Northeast Wisconsin.  The 18 counties included in the New North are Outagamie, Winnebago, Calumet, Waupaca, Brown, Shawano, Oconto, Marinette, Door, Kewaunee, Sheboygan, Manitowoc, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Marquette, Florence, Menominee, and Waushara.
