Madison (June 4, 2008) – Madison’s Oakwood Village East campus is now complete with the addition of a 42-bed skilled nursing facility, which endeavors to restore health and wellness to residents quickly and safely so they may return home. The new center is now open.

The two-story, $6.7 million Health and Rehabilitation Center, located at 5833 American Parkway, is part of a retirement community established in 2000. Its focus is on providing physical, occupational and speech therapy to help people return home as quickly as possible.        “Unfortunately, falls among older adults are among the most common and serious health problems seniors face. We tend to see many individuals seeking our services due to surgery or broken bones resulting from falls,” says Matt Mauthe, Administrator of the new facility.

Those who suffer from other acute incidents, including a stroke, heart attack or pneumonia, will also benefit from the rehabilitation services Oakwood has built a solid reputation on. “Our goal is to get individuals back home safely and in a timely manner,” adds Mauthe.

Those in need of short-term rehabilitation will receive treatment on the first floor, while those requiring long-term care will be served on the building’s second floor, where it will be quieter because of less foot traffic.

Michael Siebers, MD, a University of Wisconsin geriatric specialist, will serve as the Center’s medical director. “This is an outstanding opportunity to help from the ground up with the development of a new facility,” says Dr. Siebers.

Oakwood has gone to extra lengths to offer features and amenities that give it a home-like feeling. Paint colors, artwork and flat screen TVs (in all rooms) were chosen with comfort and aesthetics in mind. In addition, 38 of the 42 provide private accommodations. The common areas on both floors include a den, family room, electric fireplaces and fish tanks. On the second floor, there’s a balcony overlooking a landscaped courtyard.

Tours of the facility are available upon request.
