Northwestern Mutual Is ‘America’s Most Admired’ for an Unprecedented 25th Year

Only Company to Top Its Industry Every Year It Has Ranked on the FORTUNE Survey

MILWAUKEE, March 3 /PRNewswire/ — Bring out the silver platter: Northwestern Mutual has done it again. In its 2008 annual survey, FORTUNE magazine ranked the company as “America’s Most Admired” in the life/health insurance industry for a landmark 25th year. Northwestern Mutual is the only company to have led its industry every year it has been included in the prestigious survey of industry professionals and analysts.

“To land on top for a quarter century is quite an honor,” says Edward J. Zore, President and Chief Executive Officer of Northwestern Mutual. “This is a tremendous accomplishment when you consider that no other company in any industry has been named ‘America’s Most Admired’ for 25 out of 25 years. We are enormously proud to be recognized by our peers and industry experts in this way. It’s a powerful testimonial to the job we’re doing — providing financial security to our clients.”

All “America’s Most Admired” industry rankings are featured in FORTUNE magazine’s March 17 edition, available on newsstands March 10.

Northwestern Mutual received an overall score of 7.36, which is derived from eight key attributes used to calculate a company’s overall ‘corporate reputation’ score. The company was voted first in the key attributes of: quality of management, quality of products and services, long-term investment, financial soundness, employee talent, social responsibility, and use of corporate assets.

The remaining top five “Most Admired” companies ranked in the life/health insurance category include New York Life, Massachusetts Mutual Life, Principal Financial and Prudential Financial. Northwestern Mutual joins Johnson Controls as the only two Wisconsin-based companies in FORTUNE’S survey to top their respective industries.

The proverbial Quiet Company has recently accepted a string of awards placing it among the business elite. This FORTUNE honor comes just months after Northwestern Mutual topped all other service companies in Selling Power magazine’s annual ranking of the “50 Best Companies to Sell For.” In addition, the experts at Vault, Inc. in 2007 named the Northwestern Mutual Financial Network internship program as one of America’s Top Ten Internships for the twelfth year in a row.

Started in 1982, FORTUNE’S list of America’s Most Admired Companies is an annual report card on corporate reputations graded by more than 10,000 business executives and analysts from the nearly 600 largest companies in some 60 industries who rate others in their industry on eight key attributes.

Northwestern Mutual Financial Network is the marketing name for the sales distribution arm of The Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Milwaukee, WI — a FORTUNE 500 company with over $1 trillion of life insurance protection in force. The company maintains the highest available ratings for insurance financial strength from all four major rating agencies: Standard & Poor’s, Fitch Ratings, A. M. Best and Moody’s.

For more than 150 years, Northwestern Mutual has been helping its policyowners and clients achieve financial security. Further information on the company, its subsidiaries and affiliates can be found at: http://www.nmfn.com/.
