NASCAR TRADITION OF MILWAUKEE MILE BACK-TO-BACK NIGHTTIME RACES RETURN JUNE 19 & 20 IN 2009

CAMPING WORLD SUMMER SPEED WEEKEND DATES ANNOUNCED TODAY BY NASCAR

West Allis, Wis. (August 19, 2008) – The Milwaukee Mile first hosted a NASCAR-sanctioned event in 1984, and today, it was revealed the NASCAR tradition of back-to-back night races will return to America’s Legendary Oval in 2009.

The NASCAR Camping World Summer Speed Weekend at The Milwaukee Mile will feature a 250-mile NASCAR Nationwide Series event on Saturday night, June 20. It will be the 19th time the Nationwide Series will take to The Mile and co-headline Wisconsin’s biggest motorsports weekend.

The NASCAR Truck Series, which has competed annually at The Mile since the series inception in 1995, will run a 200-mile contest on Friday night, June 19.

Temporary MUSCO Lighting has been erected to illuminate the historic one-mile oval, much to the delight of the fans and competitors, since The Mile’s 2004 Camping World Summer Speed event weekend.

The Milwaukee Mile will host the 15th of 35 events on the announced 2009 NASCAR Nationwide Series schedule, while the track’s NASCAR Truck Series event will be the 11th of 25 on next year’s series schedule.

NASCAR star Carl Edwards captured the Camping World RV Rental 250 Nationwide Series event this past June, while Michigan short tracker Johnny Benson scored his third Camping World RV Sales 200 Truck Series checkered flag at The Mile.

The Milwaukee Mile is America’s oldest active speedway, with motorized racing events dating back to 1903. A virtual who’s-who of auto racing has competed at America’s Legendary Oval in IndyCar Series, NASCAR and a myriad of other sanctioned events.

Dale Earnhardt, Jr., Dale Jarrett, Sam Ard, Ted Musgrave, Greg Biffle, Kurt Busch, Ron Hornaday, Jr., Jack Ingram and Wisconsin natives Johnny Sauter and Paul Menard are among the speedway’s NASCAR event winners through the years.
