At HIMSS ’08, RF Technologies(R) Will Host LIVE! Demonstrations of PinPoint(R) Peer-to-Peer Wi-Fi RTLS

Peer-to-Peer Wi-Fi Tags reduce cost and time for deployment of Wi-Fi RTLS in existing Wi-Fi networks; Door Controller Security built into every tag

BROOKFIELD, Wis., Feb. 7 /PRNewswire/ — RF Technologies, a leader in wireless asset location and security solutions for the Healthcare Industry since 1987, will demonstrate its breakthrough Peer-to-Peer Wi-Fi RTLS Solution at HIMSS ’08 Booth 2101. The new PinPoint(R) Peer-to-Peer Wi-Fi Tag optimizes asset tracking performance through its rapid deployment and enterprise-wide data connectivity. The battery based Wi-Fi tags can be deployed as asset tags or reference tags. This means facilities that already have a Wi-Fi Infrastructure in place can take advantage of the Reference Tags to save valuable time and money. Reference Tags form a peer-to-peer network and enable asset tags to use Signal Strength (RSSI) and Time of Flight (TOF) to determine their location, and also, if needed, pass on the information about asset tags to the access point. This enables a facility to extend the Wi-Fi RTLS with high accuracy into areas that may not have robust or any WLAN coverage, without the expense and man-hours associated with adding costly access points. No operational disruptions, no need to add access points to increase accuracy, and no re-planning of existing Wi-Fi networks. PinPoint Peer-to-Peer Wi-Fi RTLS will work seamlessly with the Wi-Fi access point infrastructure of any vendor; therefore, the cost and deployment time needed to make an RTLS Asset Location-Aware System a reality is substantially reduced.

“Now, with Peer-to-Peer Wi-Fi RTLS, every healthcare facility can implement a location-aware solution,” said Glenn Jonas, CEO of RF Technologies, Inc. Over the course of its 20-year history, RF Technologies has deployed asset and security tags in more than 10,000 installs. According to Jonas, “We built that same proven door controller security into each and every PinPoint tag.” When a PinPoint Peer-to-Peer Tag is detected in an unauthorized area, the system can be programmed to trigger an alert, lock down doors, and deactivate elevators, if needed. And the PinPoint Tamper Detection feature is patented technology exclusive to RF Technologies. Tamper Detection activates an alert when a tag has been removed from an asset.

According to Ajay Malik, Chief Technology Officer, “To support the needs of RTLS, there are many technologies such as Wi-Fi, Active RFID, Passive RFID, Ultrasound, UWB, Infrared, GPS, ZigBee, Rubee etc., and technically speaking, none of the technologies is perfect for all the applications. The PinPoint RTLS Platform software is designed to be modular to support various types of tag technologies. Plug-ins for any other type of tag technology can be easily added. This enables customers to continue to use the RTLS tag technology they have already deployed or to add newer technologies that will be available in the future.”

The PinPoint RTLS Platform provides APIs and northbound interfaces that enable ERP applications to easily integrate RTLS information, facilitating process enhancements. The PinPoint RTLS Platform also provides highly flexible reporting functions as well as web-based portals at computers or on PDAs.

RF Technologies, Inc. will demonstrate its Peer-to-Peer Wi-Fi Location Aware Solution LIVE! In Booth 2101 at the HIMSS ’08 Annual Conference and Exhibition in Orlando, February 25th through 28th.
