A Fund For Women encourages Dane County community groups to apply for grants

Workshop to provide training on grant-writing scheduled at the

Madison Community Foundation

A Fund For Women, a component fund of the Madison Community Foundation, is now accepting grant applications for its 2008 funding cycle. The Fund expects to distribute approximately $100,000 this year.

Nonprofit organizations that would like to know more about the grant-writing process are invited to attend a workshop organized by A Fund For Women at the Madison Community Foundation, 2 Science Court, from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, May 16. To register for the grant-writing workshop, please send an e-mail with your name, organization and contact information by May 9 to affw@madisoncommunityfoundation.org.

The deadline for grant applications is Tuesday, July 1, 2008. Winners will be announced on October 15, 2008 at A Fund For Women’s annual fundraising event.

In the current grant cycle, A Fund For Women is seeking proposals for projects or programs that help women and girls achieve greater self-sufficiency through:

  • Enhanced parenting and life skills, especially through communication and language development;

  • Greater access to preventive health programs and child-care;

  • Improved academic and social success in all levels of girls’ education; and

  • Reduced violence, including physical, sexual, domestic and peer or gang bullying and fighting.

 A Fund For Women is particularly interested in innovative programs and services that will reach women and girls from diverse backgrounds in urban, suburban or rural Dane County. Proposals should indicate how the project or program will help connect women or girls to a support network or resource that will help them overcome emotional, social, intellectual, occupational and/or physical barriers to self-sufficiency.

Interested nonprofit organizations may visit A Fund For Women’s Web site at www.affw.org to obtain the entire Request For Proposal, or contact Jan Gietzel at
