Necedah, WI – Workers from Wisconsin River Power Company (WRPCO), recently completed work improving the area near the shelters at Petenwell Veterans’ Park to make them more accessible for wheelchair-bound people. WRPCO volunteered to do the work, which was not required by its recreational plan for Petenwell, after meeting with representatives of the local Veterans’ Affairs and the Tomah Veterans’ Hospital.

Improvements to the park included creating new bus parking with a blacktop unloading sidewalk, new sidewalks to connect the pavilion, grill area, and restroom, and new blacktop at the fishing area. All the work completed will improve wheelchair accessibility at the facility.

“We’re happy to make these improvements,” said Virgil Schlorke, Supervisor – Regional Generation for Wisconsin Public Service Corporation, the Green Bay-based utility that operates WRPCO. “We all owe a debt to our military veterans and improving the park is the right thing to do.”
