Ameritech Services has announced it will lay off 102 workers in Milwaukee when it shuts down the Wholesale Customer Care Center on North Milwaukee Street in late October. Other operations will continue at that location, company officials said.

Nearly all of the employees are classified as “service workers.” Many are represented by the Communication Workers of America and may have bumping rights.

In another layoff announcement The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society has notified state and local officials that it plans to permanently closed the skilled nursing operation at Capeside Cove in Siren in mid-November. Siren is northwest of Eau Claire.

The closure of the facility means 74 workers will lose their jobs, company officials said. Some of the affected employees may be able to transfer to other God Samaritan operations in Wisconsin or five other Midwestern states. The company said some of the workers are union members.
