There is no evidence linking donations to Gov. Jim Doyle’s re-election campaign and the Public Service Commission’s decision to sign off on the sale of the Kewaunee nuclear power plant after regulators has initially rejected the deal, the state Department of Justice announced this morning.

DOJ commenced an investigation in 2005 to see if Doyle improperly influenced the PSC’s deliberations.

Attorney General J.B. Van Hollen said in a statement that after “a thorough investigation, we have not found any evidence linking campaign donations to Governor Doyle to the PSC decision to approve the sale of the Kewaunee Nuclear Power Plant. Nor did we find any evidence that the Governor’s Office improperly influenced the PSC decision in any way.”

Doyle spokesman Matt Canter offered a brief comment. “Of course there was no finding of any connection between campaign contributions and the PSC’s decision,” he said.
