WisBusiness: Boxer turns fundraising attention to business

Barbara Boxer, head of Women Angels L.L.C., has been raising money for years.

As part of the mail-order medical supply firm she ran for may years, she helped dental- and medical-student groups raise money. She also was a major fundraiser for the Democratic Party in Wisconsin.

Now, the former head of the government relations department at Milwaukee law firm Reinhart Boerner Van Deuren S.C., is busy raising money for her women-only angel investor group – and opening chapters in Florida and other locales.

“Fundraising is the thread that runs through my career, though I’d never really thought of that before,” said Boxer.

“But Women Angels is about making money, not altruism,” said Boxer, who is now general counsel for PDM Bridge in Florida. “We only invest in about 10 percent of the deals we look at.

“Still, there is a certain satisfaction and energy you get from helping an entrepreneur,” she said. Even if they aren’t ready for an investment, you can help move them from point A to B with the right connection.”
