Legal Excellence and Pro Bono Leadership Contribute to Win

Milwaukee – Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek, S.C., announced today that attorney Noleta Jansen, a Germantown resident, is a recipient of a 2007 Leadership in the Law Award. Jansen is one of only 17 attorneys statewide to qualify for the award for outstanding contributions to the practice of law. Jansen will be honored at the fifth annual Leaders in the Law Awards Dinner on March 28 at the Milwaukee Athletic Club. Finalists will be profiled in a special Wisconsin Law Journal publication on April 2nd.

“We’re delighted any time one of our attorneys is recognized for outstanding work,” said Mark Miller, CEO of Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek. “WHD has an established tradition of legal excellence in both our client and pro bono work. Noleta Jansen is an outstanding example of the tradition to which we all adhere.”

Jansen was nominated for her work establishing a pro bono clinic to help parents or other family members become court-appointed legal guardians of developmentally disabled children reaching adulthood. As a court-appointed guardian, that parent or other family member can continue to provide consent for a child’s health care throughout the child’s adult life. The clinic, operating out of Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin with attorneys from Whyte Hirschboeck Dudek, provides pro bono legal assistance for parents who otherwise could not afford an attorney to petition for legal guardianship. Without a legal guardian, a now-adult child could be left vulnerable in an emergency without someone empowered to consent to medical procedures.

Jansen is among 17 attorneys, two judges and a law school dean to be honored. The recipients were selected from nominations submitted to a panel of representatives from five bar associations.

Leadership in the Law Awards are presented by The Wisconsin Law Journal, a statewide weekly newspaper for Wisconsin’s lawyers and judges, providing legal news, appellate

opinions and analysis, and other vital law practice information.
