We Energies Named Best in Midwest for Keeping the Lights On

Award recognizes most reliable electric utilities nationwide

MILWAUKEE, Oct. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ — For the fifth time in the past six years, We Energies has been named the winner of the ReliabilityOne(TM) award in the Midwest region for the superior reliability of its electric system.

The award is based on the company’s performance for the year 2006. The ReliabilityOne(TM) award is given annually by PA Consulting Group to the utilities that have excelled in delivering reliable electric service to their customers.

“The focus of our company is customer service and reliability,” said Charley Cole, We Energies senior vice president – Customer Operations. “This recognition of our employees’ efforts on a regional level for the fifth time is evidence that all the hard work is paying off — for our customers and our company.”

“We have an outstanding group of recipients from across the country,” said Jeff Lewis, PA’s ReliabilityOne(TM) Program Director. “Each utility distinguished itself for its commitment to delivering outstanding reliability to customers and the overall 2006 performance is among the best I’ve seen since we began the program more than six years ago. The utility companies and regulators have really sharpened their focus on reliability and it has driven industry performance.”

PA Consulting Group is the energy industry’s largest management consulting firm. PA reviewed the outage performance data of utilities across the country as a part of the firm’s annual benchmarking study of North American energy providers.

We Energies has made significant investments in recent years to strengthen the reliability of its network, rebuild hundreds of miles of distribution lines and trim thousands of trees to keep branches and limbs from coming into contact with power lines. In fact, the We Energies vegetation management program is one of many maintenance initiatives that contribute to providing dependable service and maintaining healthy trees in its service area. In recognition of these endeavors, the National Arbor Day foundation awarded We Energies its ninth consecutive Tree Line USA designation earlier this year.

We Energies serves more than 1.1 million electric customers in Wisconsin and Michigan’s Upper Peninsula and more than 1 million natural gas customers in Wisconsin. Its energy prices are approximately 10 percent below the average for major U.S. cities. We Energies is the trade name of Wisconsin Electric Power Company and Wisconsin Gas LLC, the principal utility subsidiaries of Wisconsin Energy Corporation (NYSE:WEC) .
