Veolia Environmental Services Appoints New President and COO of Solid Waste Division

MILWAUKEE, Jan. 5 /PRNewswire/ — The Solid Waste division of Veolia Environmental Services North America Corp. (VESNA) is pleased to announce the appointment of a new President and COO to its leadership post. Richard Burke has assumed the role of President and COO of Veolia ES Solid Waste, Inc. effective January 1, 2007. He replaces Paul Jenks, who retired as President and CEO at the end of 2006. Burke previously served as Vice President of the Eastern Region of Veolia ES Solid Waste, Inc.

Michel Gourvennec, CEO of Veolia Environmental Services North America, touched upon the company’s future expansion goals during his announcement of the staff changes. “While we will miss Paul Jenks’ leadership and guidance, we are fortunate to have a key individual to promote from within the organization,” said Gourvennec. “Richard Burke brings a wealth of industry experience and strategic insight to his new role as President and COO. These traits will serve us well as he takes an active approach in driving the growth of our company across North America.”

In his new position, Mr. Burke will be responsible for helping further the organization’s agenda as set forth by Gourvennec. “My objective is to drive the strategic growth of the Solid Waste division and continue to expand our North American presence in line with the goals of the entire Veolia organization,” explained Burke. He will also have responsibility for P&L for Veolia ES Solid Waste, Inc.

Richard Burke joined Veolia Environmental Services in 1999 as Area Manager for Southeast Wisconsin and was soon promoted to Regional Vice President for the Eastern and Southern markets. Prior to that, he spent 12 years with Waste Management as Director of Operations for the State of New York. He is a member of the Rotary Club for the Greater Richmond Area and is past Chairman of the Mary Cariola Children’s Center, a school dedicated to educating children with special needs.

Mr. Jenks, who has over 21 years experience in the waste services industry, now takes on the role of special consultant to Veolia Environmental Services, reporting directly to Gourvennec. In this role, he will focus on strategic growth opportunities across all of the company’s business lines.

Headquartered in Milwaukee, Veolia ES Solid Waste, Inc. is one of the largest providers of waste management services in North America.
