UPPCO Extends Deadline One Month for Commenting on Draft Shoreline Management Plans

HOUGHTON, MI – Upper Peninsula Power Company has extended by one month the deadline for submitting comments on its draft Shoreline Management Plans (SMPs) for five hydroelectric projects in the U.P.

Hearing that interested parties preferred a longer comment period, UPPCO extended the deadline from April 21 to May 21, 2007.

The draft SMPs were placed on UPPCO’s Web site on March 20, and a press release was issued that same day offering printed copies upon request. Public meetings were set for late March and early April, about halfway through the original 30-day comment period. The public meetings are opportunities for the public to learn more about the SMPs by listening to presentations and asking questions.

“We want comments on our draft plans from the public,” said Shawn Puzen, Environmental Consultant, “and we’ll include them in our final submission to FERC. For the sake of accuracy, we’re asking that all comments be in writing either by using the postpaid comment cards made available at the public meetings or by letter to Janet Wolfe at PO Box 130, Houghton MI 49931, by the end of the day May 21.
