New Percent-of-Revenue Lease Option Provides Owner-Operators Choice
GREEN BAY, Wis., June 7 /PRNewswire/ — Schneider National, Inc., a premier provider of transportation, logistics and intermodal services, today announced that the company is offering a new Percent-of-Revenue lease option to Schneider owner-operators that will provide a competitive advantage over other trucking companies.
“This new Percent-of-Revenue-based lease option affords owner-operators the freedom to make trade-off decisions on load assignments and revenue options,” says Mike Bethea, director of operations, truckload contractors for Schneider National. “This option is in addition to our long-standing mileage-based option, which pays $.90 per mile on all company-dispatched miles, plus accessorial pay (Schneider owner-operators average $1.20 per mile).”
The Schneider National Percent-of-Revenue-based lease option is available to owner-operators in all states east of the Mississippi River, as well as Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. Schneider owner-operators, and those looking to join Schneider, must have at least one year of experience to participate in the new program.
The new option pays 65 percent of the line-haul revenue and 100 percent fuel surcharge with no trailer rental fees. Owner-operators can view all of Schneider’s freight opportunities in their market, regionally and nationally, before selecting a load online. The load availability technology also provides owner-operators the ability to view all loads for that day and also look ahead to select their next load. Other advantages of Schneider’s Percent-of-Revenue-based lease option include: no agents are involved as owner-operators choose their own load from Schneider’s pool of freight, Schneider pays select tolls and offers delay compensation.
“Whichever lease owner-operators choose, they’ll also be eligible to take advantage of the money-saving Schneider Purchase Power Program(TM),” added Bethea.
Schneider has piloted the Percent-of-Revenue-based lease option with a segment of its current owner-operator fleet for the past six months. Sam Mobley, a Schneider owner-operator since 1997, was part of the pilot program and believes it’s one of the best programs out there. “It puts you in control,” says Mobley. “First, you have the opportunity to make more money by selecting higher value freight. And second, you can manage your own time instead of having it managed for you.”
Mobley says the new lease option may not be for everyone because it requires the driver to be more involved. “But for people who want more control of their lives, it’s a great option.”
