New North: Goodwill Industries wins New North Diversity Award

SHEBOYGAN, December 19, 2007 – Goodwill Industries of North Central Wisconsin received the first annual People, Possibilities, and Progress Diversity Award at the 2007 New North Summit in Sheboygan.

The award, sponsored by Kimberly-Clark, was designed to recognize organizations and companies in Northeast Wisconsin that have demonstrated a commitment to embracing diversity.

Goodwill industries was honored for its efforts to attract, retain, and recruit a diverse workforce. The organization employs a diversity council, which is charged with developing strategic plans for supporting diversity with clear, defined goals and implementation procedures.

“Diversity is a key component in all successful organizations and businesses, and Goodwill Industries clearly has embraced it,” said Jerry Murphy, Executive Director of the New North, Inc. “Goodwill, and all of the other companies from whom we received entries, have demonstrated that New North companies are committed to ensuring diversity plays a key role in their business practices.”

Appleton, Wisconsin Public Service, and Northeast Wisconsin Technical College were the other three finalists for the award.

Gregg Curry, Vice Chair of Goodwill Industries of North Central Wisconsin, accepted the award on behalf of Goodwill.

“Diversity will make your company stronger; it will make you – as individuals – stronger,” Curry said at the Summit. “On behalf of Goodwill, thank you very much for this honor, and thanks to Kimberly-Clark for highlighting the importance of diversity.”
