Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance Applauds Governor Doyle for Today’s Move Toward Energy Efficiency

Association Urges Midwest Governors to Make Energy Efficiency a Big Priority

MILWAUKEE, Nov. 14 /PRNewswire/ — The Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance applauds Governor Doyle for his ground-breaking announcement today at the Midwestern Governors Association Energy Summit. As part of his commitment to the Energy Security and Climate Stewardship Platform, Doyle agreed to pursue policies to meet 2% of Wisconsin’s annual electricity and natural gas consumption through energy efficiency. The state is already about halfway to this goal with its Focus on Energy program, which helps businesses and consumers save energy and money. Experts also recognize efficiency as a significant part of any carbon mitigation strategy.

Wisconsin utilities have a long history of investing in energy efficiency resources and Doyle’s leadership at home is a solid foundation for leading the rest of the Midwest towards a more efficient future. Under Governor Doyle’s leadership, the state overhauled its energy policy and made energy efficiency a top priority. “I commend Governor Doyle for his vision of a clean energy future and look forward to working with him to strengthen Wisconsin’s commitment to this valuable resource,” said Alecia Ward, president and CEO of MEEA. Doyle previously signed onto the Midwest Natural Gas Initiative, aimed at reducing energy use by 1% per year.

“Energy efficiency is the gift that keeps on giving in Wisconsin. An ongoing investment in efficiency resources will strengthen the state’s economy and safeguard consumers against rising energy prices,” said Ward.
