MILWAUKEE–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Journal Communications (NYSE:JRN) announced today that David Harwood is joining its interactive group as vice president of online sales.

For the past three years, Harwood has served as director of online sales for the Denver Newspaper Agency, which represents the Rocky Mountain News and The Denver Post. During that time he grew online sales to record levels, consistently out-performed goals and increased online revenues by double-digit percentages year-over-year. Harwood also played a key role in launching several new sales initiatives such as YourHub.com, podcasting sponsorships, RSS sponsorships, SMS platforms and new video revenue opportunities for both print and online.

Harwood also has an established track record of strong sales achievement in other industries. Prior to his position in Denver, he served for five years as General Manager at CitySearch.com, where he was responsible for regional offices in Chicago, Denver and Minneapolis and received three consecutive annual President’s Award of Excellence. He was also employed for five years at The Boston Beer Company (brewer of Samuel Adams beers), where he served as a brand manager working with distributors in Colorado, Wyoming and Utah.

“We are very pleased that David Harwood is joining our interactive group, as his diverse background in direct newspaper, online pure-play media and consumer product sales experience will be a strong addition to our burgeoning online presence across our publishing and broadcasting businesses,” commented Sharon Prill, senior vice president for interactive media and audience development at Journal Interactive. “In this newly created position, David will be responsible for driving digital sales across all of our online properties, including our daily and community newspapers, specialty publications and television and radio station websites. On a personal note, David grew up in nearby Wauwatosa, Wisconsin and is very familiar with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and our strong broadcast presence in the Milwaukee area.”
