Hoeksema to discuss future of Midwest Airlines at Newsmaker Luncheon

Timothy Hoeksema, chairman and chief executive officer of Midwest Air Group Inc., will be the featured guest at the next Milwaukee Press Club Newsmaker Luncheon.

The event will take place Wednesday, March 28, beginning at noon at the Newsroom Pub, 137 E. Wells St., in downtown Milwaukee

Hoeksema will discuss how the Oak Creek-based parent company of Midwest Airlines intends to remain independent by fending off a hostile takeover bid by AirTran Holdings Inc. of Orlando, Fla.

Midwest Air Group is in the midst of rolling out a strategic growth plan. The company projects 21-percent growth in flight capacity and is adding new routes and additional flights this year.  Hoeksema says AirTran’s takeover offer, estimated at $325 million, is inadequate, and he is urging shareholders to reject the hostile bid.

The Milwaukee Press Club conducts the monthly Newsmaker Luncheons to shine light on the important issues of the day. Featured guests are interviewed by a panel of journalists.

Hoeksema was the featured guest at the first Newsmaker Luncheon in November 2005, when he boldly proclaimed that his company would return to profitability in 2006. His prediction came true.

The Milwaukee Press Club’s Newsmaker Luncheon Series is sponsored by the Argosy Foundation, which believes the community is better served by a free and engaged media.

The Press Club presents the Newsmaker Luncheons monthly to shed light on issues of the day. The public is invited to attend the luncheons. The cost to attend is $15 for MPC members, $20 for non-members, $10 for students.  Lunch is included. Because seating is limited, pre-registration and advance payment is required and may be made on-line at  <
