PORT WASHINGTON, Wis., Dec. 17 /PRNewswire/ — Egg Innovations, pioneer of the rapidly expanding cage-free egg market, has been named as a major supplier of cage-free eggs to Compass Group. Compass announced today a landmark policy to implement cage-free shell eggs in its 7,500 units nationally, which will affect 48 million eggs annually.

Egg Innovations is the largest single producer of eggs certified by Humane Farm Animal Care, widely considered to be the strictest third-party certification standard in the egg industry.

“More and more consumers are concerned about where their food comes from, and how it is produced,” said John Brunnquell, third-generation family farmer and president of Egg Innovations. “I am proud to supply Compass with my cage-free eggs to meet this demand for ethical food production.”

Brunnquell transitioned his family’s farm to cage-free production in 2005 with the mission of producing eggs that meet the highest national standards for animal welfare and nutrition, all within a family farming model. The company’s cage-free and free-range hens live on 31 farms in Indiana — 29 of which are run by Amish farming families. The Egg Innovations contract model enables farmers to remain independent owners of their land and facilities.

Egg Innovations ( is the largest 100% cage-free egg supplier with national reach, supplying eggs in 35 states to customers such as Compass Group, Bon Appetit Management Company, Bruegger’s Bagels and Suzy’s Cheesecakes.
