American Lung Association of Wisconsin Receives Grant

WAUKESHA, Wis., May 15 /PRNewswire/ — Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation, the charitable giving arm of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin, has awarded the American Lung Association of Wisconsin (ALA) a $30,000 grant for its Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) initiative. The American Lung Association of Wisconsin will use the grant to support its efforts in providing educational programs, continuing medical education, a national “Lung HelpLine” and printed resources to help adults suffering from COPD and their caregivers and primary healthcare professionals.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a term referring to two lung diseases, chronic bronchitis and emphysema, that are characterized by obstruction to airflow that interferes with normal breathing.

“This grant reflects our commitment to providing people throughout Wisconsin with information and resources about health issues,” says Steve Martenet, president of Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin. “Early diagnosis and education for individuals with COPD can help individuals have a higher quality of life. The American Lung Association of Wisconsin’s initiative will help provide education and programming for nearly 41,000 individuals in Wisconsin suffering from COPD, and equip health care professionals with current resources to help care for their patients with this disease.”

“We are pleased to partner again with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Wisconsin to help people in Wisconsin breathe easier,” said Sue Swan, Executive Director for the Lung Association. “COPD is on the rise and can make the simple act of breathing a constant challenge. Thanks to the Foundation, the Lung Association will be able to put valuable information and resources into the hands of the people who need it the most.”
