WEST ALLIS, WIS., June 1, 2006 – The Wisconsin Dental Association (WDA) has been honored with a Telly® Award and three Paragon Communications Awards for several of its public and member communication projects.

The 30-second WDA television spot “The Workout” won a bronze Telly® in the health category for local-regional television commercials. Part of a statewide, healthy choices “Brush and Floss or Else…” public awareness campaign, the spot focuses on educating adults about the importance of oral health to overall physical well-being by highlighting periodontal (gum) disease and the potential for increased heart disease risk. This campaign also includes two radio spots and a patient education brochure. Assisting the WDA in creation of its award-winning TV spot were Group One Marketing (Menomonee Falls), Endless Productions (Shorewood) and Mainly Editing (Milwaukee’s Third Ward).

Telly® Awards were established in 1978 by Emmy® and Clio® winner David E. Carter to honor outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials. The competition draws some 12,000 entries in more than 200 categories annually. Entries are judged against a high standard and scored on a performance scale — silver or bronze. Judges are top advertising and production professionals and past Telly® winners.

The Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America recognized the annual WDA Smile Contest and Floss at the Fair with a Paragon Communications Award of Excellence. The WDA Journal, mailed monthly to the association’s 2,900 member dentists, earned a Merit Award, as did the group’s 2005 Year in Review DVD. WDA staff shared the journal and DVD recognitions with Group One Marketing.

Created in 1983, Paragon Communications Awards recognize outstanding public relations work, honor creative and strategic excellence and encourage a high level of performance among southeastern Wisconsin public relations professionals.

Established in 1870, the WDA is headquartered in West Allis and represents the vast majority of practicing dentists in Wisconsin. Members are committed to promoting professional excellence and quality oral health care. The WDA is one of 53 constituent (state-territorial) dental societies of the American Dental Association – the largest and oldest national dental association in the world.
