Continuing its squeeze on Midwest Air, AirTran Holdings took out a full-page ad in the front section of Sunday’s Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The ad appeals to Midwest “stakeholders” and says a merger would create a company that would “offer superior value to our shareholders, a high-quality, low-cost airline to more passengers and provide greater opportunity for employees of both companies.”

The ad also pledges that overall employment would grow, that service would increase and that a merger would create 173 nonstop routes. It also touts AirTran Airways reputation as a “valuable corporate citizen” in Orlando and Atlanta and notes that shareholders would receive a 37 percent premium to the 30-day average closing price.

Finally, it asks: “Why won’t the Midwest Board explore the merits of our proposal with their stakeholders?”
