WellPoint: Ranked as a Top Company for Executive Women

March 13, 2006 – WellPoint, Inc. (NYSE: WLP) announced today that it
was named one of the top 30 companies for executive women by the
National Association for Female Executives (NAFE). This is the
seventh consecutive year WellPoint has been named a leading national
company for executive women.

“We are delighted to receive this recognition once again as it
reflects our ongoing commitment to provide career developmental and
promotional opportunities for the talented women in our company,”
said Larry C. Glasscock, chairman, president and chief executive
officer of WellPoint, Inc. “These efforts build upon our overall
initiative in attracting and engaging the best talent to create a
unified high-performance culture.”

WellPoint utilizes an innovative succession planning process through
which the company creates a focus on developing leadership talent
across the enterprise. WellPoint’s succession planning process is
one of the ways WellPoint facilitates talent sharing and associate
development throughout the company.

WellPoint was also named by Working Mother Magazine as one of its
2005 Best Companies for Women of Color as a further indication of
its commitment to gender and diversity issues.

Methodology: To be named to the NAFE Top 30 Companies for Executive
Women, companies with a minimum of two women on the board completed
a comprehensive application that focused on the number of women in
senior ranks (compared to men and to the company population),
including questions about the programs and policies which support
women’s advancement.
