Vote For ‘Legends of Milwaukee’

Milwaukee area residents now can vote for their favorite “Legends of Milwaukee: The People Who Made Milwaukee Famous” as part of the City of
Milwaukee’s 161st Birthday Party, hosted by the Milwaukee Press Club and planned for
January 31. The Legends of Milwaukee ballot is available at www.LegendsOfMilwaukee.org.

This year’s Legends of Milwaukee follows 2005’s successful Gems of Milwaukee
program, which was the theme of last year’s City Birthday Party. Gems, which honored
some of the entities, places and things that make Milwaukee special, drew thousands
of votes.

“We expect Legends of Milwaukee, which honors individuals who impacted
Milwaukee’s growth and progress, to strike a similar chord,” said Julie Pedretti,
who is the City Birthday Party committee chair and a Milwaukee Press Club board
member, also is director of Public Relations for Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin.

The public now is invited to vote online for their favorite Milwaukee legends in
eight categories: Sports, Media, Entertainment, Business, Government/Politics/Civic,
Founders, Community Enrichment/Philanthropy and Icons. Voting will continue through
midnight on Jan. 26, 2007. Winners in each category will be announced on January 31
by Milwaukee Historian John Gurda at the City of Milwaukee’s 161st Birthday Party,
hosted annually by The Milwaukee Press Club. Potawatomi Bingo Casino is the lead
sponsor for this year’s event to be held at the Milwaukee Public Museum.

Dating back to 1885, the Milwaukee Press Club is the oldest continuously operating
press club in North America. It currently has more than 300 members, representing a
diverse community of media-focused professionals representing nearly every local
media outlet, and with a strong constituency of public relations and marketing
professionals and individuals with an interest in the press.
