APPLETON – Fox Valley firms still have time to sign up for a booth at the first-ever Manufacturing Job Fair scheduled May 10 at the Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton.

The fair — a unique collaboration involving more than 15 partners that include The New North, universities, technical colleges, area workforce development boards and chambers of commerce — is designed to connect manufacturing and technology job seekers with firms throughout northeastern Wisconsin.

Registration is limited to 50 organizations.

Plant closings and overall declines in manufacturing employment are not a reason to ignore what is still a strong segment of the Wisconsin economy, say organizers of the job fair.

“In his January State of the State address, Gov. Jim Doyle said ‘manufacturing jobs are not a thing of the past but the heart of our future,’” said UW-Oshkosh Career Service Director Ted Balser. “Manufacturing is still alive in northeastern Wisconsin, and all of the partners in this job fair believe it can be even stronger.”

The fair will give firms the chance to promote full-, part-time and seasonal jobs in areas, such as fabrication, electronics, printing/publishing, skilled manufacturing, information technology, management, engineering and robotics.

To sign up or for more information, contact Fox Valley Technical College at (920) 735-5627.

Sponsors of the manufacturing job fair include Fox Valley, Lakeshore, Moraine Park and Northeast Wisconsin technical colleges; UW campuses in Green Bay, Fond du Lac, Fox Valley and Oshkosh; Bay Area and Fox Valley workforce development boards; the Fond du Lac Area Association of Commerce, Fox Cities Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Green Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, Manitowoc/Two Rivers Area Chamber of Commerce, Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce and Sheboygan County Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau.
