RELEASED: March 14, 2006

EAU CLAIRE — Changes in tax law will be the topic of a March 29 luncheon presentation hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire Alumni Association.

Lucretia Mattson, UW-Eau Claire professor of accounting and finance, will give a presentation from noon to 1 p.m. at Sweetwaters restaurant. Mattson’s talk titled “Tax Law Changes for 2005-06” is part of the Alumni Association’s “Let’s Do Lunch” series.

Mattson, who earned her doctorate in business from the University of Kentucky in 1983, will examine tax law changes taxpayers still might take advantage of on their 2005 tax returns. She also will explore new items for 2006, such as energy credits for homeowners and credits for purchasing hybrid cars.

Mattson keeps current on tax law changes through her work. A member of the UW-Eau Claire faculty since 1975, Mattson also teaches the tax portions of the CPA review courses in Eau Claire and Minneapolis-St. Paul, which prepare candidates for the Uniform CPA Examination. Additionally she works for Bernicke & Associates, Ltd., where she provides tax and financial planning services.

She works with more than 40 students in UW-Claire’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program and will discuss how the program affects students and the community. Her work with the program contributed to her receiving the UW-Eau Claire Faculty Mentor Excellence in Service Learning Award in 2002. Mattson also received both the UW-Eau Claire Excellence in Teaching Award and the UW-Eau Claire Excellence in Service Award in 2000.
