Support Technology Education at the BERBEE DERBY 10k Run & 5k Run/Walk

MADISON, Wis.,— November 7, 2006 — Thanksgiving Day 2006 marks the third annual Berbee Derby 10k Run & 5k Run/Walk to benefit technology education in Wisconsin. Created by Berbee, a local information technology solution provider, the run will support the charitable activities of the company’s Technology Education Foundation.

“The Technology Education Foundation grant allowed us to expand our computer lab and integrate into them 19 free English as a Second Language classes,” said Andy Russell, Administrator of the Madison Catholic Multicultural Center, one of the 2006 Technology Education Foundation grant recipients. “The grant is helping us serve people in need through learning and giving them access to technology.”

“We are committed to growing this important fund which enhances technology education in our area,” said James Berbee, founder of the event. “Berbee feels it is important for our local economy to provide educational opportunity for all.”

The TEF was created by Berbee to support area schools and non-profit organizations that use technology for educational purposes. The 2006 foundation grants funded projects at Cherokee Middle School, The Diocese of Madison Catholic Multicultural Center, Simpson Street Free Press and YMCA of Dane County.

“Our vision for the Berbee Derby is to make it a significant Wisconsin event—a fund-raiser for technology education as well as a traditional kick-off to the holiday season,” Berbee said.
The event’s major sponsors include presenting sponsor CDW; media sponsor Madison.com; and platinum sponsors Cisco Systems, The Neckerman Agency and Star Country 96.3.

The Berbee Derby begins at 9 a.m. on November 23, 2006. All ages and fitness levels are welcome. The event offers a 10K Run and 5K Run/Walk starting at Fitchburg’s Town Center and takes participants through area woodland and prairie sites, eventually connecting with the Capital City Trail.
