St. Croix Economic Development Corporation: Workforce Secretary Roberta Gassman to Speak at October 3rd Luncheon

Roberta Gassman, the Secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development (DWD), will speak at the Hudson Golf Club on Tuesday, October 3. This event was arranged by St. Croix Economic Development Corporation for the benefit of area employers.

Sec. Gassman carries out Governor Jim Doyle’s agenda for economic growth and investment in children. She oversees 2,000 employees in the department that is charged with strengthening the state’s workforce. DWD has a budget of over $2 billion and provides training and employment assistance to job seekers, works with employers to fill jobs, enforces worker’s rights, and administers unemployment insurance, apprenticeship and workers compensation.

Sec. Gassman previously served as president of Gassman Communications & Public Affairs, which provided services to major Wisconsin employers. She also served as senior vice president for Home Savings Bank and was a top aide to Governor Anthony Earl, Dane County Executive Rick Phelps, and Madison Mayor Paul Soglin.

Sec. Gassman serves on the boards of the Wisconsin Technical College System and Forward Wisconsin, Inc. and is a past president of the Madison Equal Opportunities Commission. Gassman’s work has been featured nationally and she has been honored with numerous leadership and professional awards, including being named a Woman of Distinction by the YWCA.
