Lands’ End: Launches its 2006 Outerwear Collection Combining Function and Fashion

Outerwear Headquarters(TM) is now easier to shop with a new Outerwear Finder(TM) and exclusive temperature ratings

DODGEVILLE, Wis., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire/ — When it comes to finding the perfect winter coat, the 2006 Lands’ End Outerwear survey confirms that women seek warmth first, then style. Lands’ End offers the best of both, along with coordinating accessories to build an outerwear wardrobe.

According to the survey, 78 percent of women say the single most important factor influencing their family outerwear purchasing decisions is warmth. While at the same time, 57 percent of women indicate they will purchase a winter coat to update their own outerwear style. At Lands’ End, function and fashion go hand in hand.

“We know warmth is the foremost factor in buying outerwear. But we also know that Lands’ End customers want style along with substance,” said Scott Whittingham, senior outerwear merchant for Lands’ End. “That’s why our designers have brought together the best fabrications and design innovations to create thousands of outerwear options and coordinating cold weather accessories that exude style and warmth.”

Whether shopping landsend.com, through the catalog or at one of the new Lands’ End outerwear Shops at Sears, Lands’ End offers warm and stylish options through six complete outerwear collections for the entire family – even the pet. Exclusive, new temperature ratings and an Outerwear Finder at landsend.com make it even easier for customers to sort the entire collection and select outerwear.

Six Outerwear Collections

This season, Lands’ End offers six functional and flattering outerwear collections for the entire family: Weatherfield(TM), Chalet Collection of Faux Shearling, Arctic, Squall(R), Extreme Squall and Goose Down. For kids, the innovative, electroluminescent Cool Blue(TM) jacket features the warmth and safety parents demand, plus the illumination “cool factor” for kids. There’s even a Cool Blue pet Squall with a water-repellent shell.

Cold Weather Accessories

A warm coat is just the start to an outerwear wardrobe. Lands’ End has designed coordinating cold weather accessories for each of the six collections that can be mixed and matched throughout. Hats, gloves, mittens, scarves, boots, shoes, totes and bags provide myriad options for warmth from head to toes. Products range from coordinating Weatherfield shoes and boots to the softest, world’s finest cashmere scarves and gloves. New antistatic ThermaCheck(R) fleece accessories promise the coziness and warmth of fleece without the shock or cling.

Outerwear Finder Launches at landsend.com

To navigate the six collections, accessories and all the styles for men, women, girls and boys, Lands’ End introduces an outerwear finder at landsend.com/outerwear. It is a state-of-the-art way to select coats, jackets, vests and coordinating accessories. Customers can sort and compare jackets by outerwear type, warmth rating and price range. Additionally, it suggests coordinating cold weather accessories when customers add a jacket or coat to their shopping bag.

New Temperature Ratings Guide Customers

Lands’ End has partnered with a leading university to scientifically rate outerwear warmth. In fact, Lands’ End outerwear features an exclusive temperature rating. Throughout the catalog and at landsend.com, outerwear is conveniently classified by Warm, Warmer and Warmest temperature categories. Jackets feature specific temperature ratings. The new 3-in-1 Arctic Parka will help customers stay warm in temperatures that dip to -35 degrees.

“We do everything we can to better serve our customers. Temperature ratings are an important criteria for selecting outerwear and we want our customers to be delighted with our jackets,” Whittingham said.
