IMS: Develops Web Application for UW School of Music

Looks to Web to Increase Undergraduate Enrollment

MADISON, WI (April 17, 2006) – IMS, an Internet application development and consulting company based in Madison, WI, announces the completion of a new content management Web application for the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Music. Their recently launched public Web site, which is part of the solution, can be viewed at: http://music.wisc.edu/

“IMS is pleased to partner with the UW School of Music to develop their public Web site and streamline their internal business processes with a custom content management solution,” said IMS CEO Mark Clear. “Our Web-based CMS solution gives School of Music staff the ability to communicate directly with students and faculty, keeping their site updated with current, informative content.”

Focusing on boosting student appeal and increasing undergraduate enrollment, the new Web solution combines an engaging design with custom CMS functionality that will allow non-technical School of Music administrators to make content updates. The site, developed in Java, also features a complex database architecture which dynamically groups all relevant information associated with certain data records. For instance a faculty member’s page will automatically display and link to any relevant ensembles, upcoming events, recordings, publications and other criteria that are associated with that person. This built in automation helps site users navigate a content rich site by establishing consistent information architecture while allowing content authors to focus on content creation rather than mechanics.

“We’re excited to provide a better online resource for current UW students and potential students who are looking for information about our academic programs, faculty, enrollment requirements or upcoming concerts and events,” said School of Music Assistant Director Molly Carlson. “Site visitors will also notice dramatic improvements to the navigation, information architecture, and creative design, all of which should lend to a better user experience and more qualified inquiries about enrollment.”
