Milwaukee, Wisconsin (July 6, 2006). The law firm of Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. announced the addition of John S. Swimmer to its Indian Nations Law Practice Group in the firm’s Milwaukee office.

Prior to joining the firm, Swimmer spent three years serving as the Mille Lacs Bands of Chippewa Tribe’s solicitor general, overseeing the Tribe’s legal staff and advising the tribal government on a wide variety of matters, including sovereignty protection, government relations, and economic development. Prior to that, he worked as a tribal attorney for the Ho-Chunk Nation Department of Justice.

Swimmer is licensed to practice in both Wisconsin and Minnesota and is a member of the Oklahoma Cherokee Nation Tribe. He received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison Law School, and his bachelor’s degree in Speech Communications from the University of Oklahoma.
