DWD: DWD Secretary Announces Interim Equal Rights Division Administrator

Madison – Department of Workforce Development (DWD) Secretary Roberta Gassman today announced the appointment of LeAnna Ware as Acting Administrator of the Division of Equal Rights. Ware will replace Administrator Lucía Nuñez , who is leaving DWD to become the new director of the city of Madison’s Department of Civil Rights.

Prior to her appointment, Ware was director of the Civil Rights Bureau in DWD’s Equal Rights Division (ERD). The bureau is responsible for settlement, investigation and hearing of complaints of discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodations, as well as the family and medical leave act. Ware also previously held in supervisory and investigative positions in ERD. She is also a past commissioner for the Madison Equal Opportunities Commission and was a founder of the Dane County Fair Housing Council.

LeAnna’s many years of work in Equal Rights, and her work in the community to advance equitable treatment for everyone, are true assets for this department,” said Secretary Gassman. “I also wish to thank Lucía Nuñez for her dedication and work at DWD. I know she carries that dedication forward in her new role for the city of Madison.”

Gassman added that Ware’s appointment is effective February 2.
