Doyle Announces Over $12 million in Housing Funds

MADISON – Governor Jim Doyle today announced Department of Commerce (Commerce) awards totaling $12,476,500 to 29 housing-related agencies to help low- and moderate income persons with costs associated with buying or renovating single- family homes.


 


“Governor Doyle’s Affordability Agenda calls for promoting safe, affordable housing, and expanding home ownership opportunities for low-income families,” said Commerce Secretary Mary P. Burke. “By helping Wisconsin residents become first-time home buyers, we are building the health and vitality of communities across the state.”


 


HOME Single-Family and Rental Rehabilitation Housing (HOME) and Housing Cost Reduction Initiative (HCRIH) Homebuyer Programs help low- and moderate income persons purchase or rehabilitate single-family homes.

SWCAP will utilize HOME CHDO funding to construct 7 single-family housing units at a total cost (land and improvements) of approximately $140,000 per unit.  The units will be leased to LMI families that are participants in one of the agency’s income enhancement programs.  Under this program the ability to purchase a home will be coupled with SWCAP programming to assist the participants to increase their household income.  The project provides seven units of newly constructed, energy-efficient housing valued at approximately $980,000 ($140,000 per unit).
