Dane Co. Dept. of Human Services: Linking Displaced Sunny Industries Workers with Resources

For more information, contact:
David W. Carlson, Public Relations Manager, Dane County Human Services, (608) 242-6424.

The Dane County Department of Human Services is working with the South Central Workforce Development Board and several other agencies to assist 380 workers who lost their jobs Friday with the closing of Sunny Industries in Mazomanie.

The County department this week also provided staff who met with Sunny Industries employees to explain government assistance programs they may be eligible for, such as Medical Assistance and FoodShare. The department’s Joining Forces for Families (JFF) program also is working one-on-one with families to assist with individual needs and hardships the business closing may create.

“We’re committed to doing all we can to link people with the resources that are available to assist them,” said Falk. “The good news is we have a strong local economy and a low unemployment rate — both of which should give these displaced workers hope that they’ll have a paycheck again soon.”

Sunny Industries employees who would like to expedite applying for Medical Assistance or FoodShare can go online to www.access.wisconsin.gov. The state’s “Access” Web site is available in English and Spanish.

Sunny Industries workers who need assistance with locating new employment opportunities should contact the Dane County Job Center at 608-242-4563.
