Madison, WI – Accelerate Madison announces details of a networking and educational event being held on Monday evening, May 22, 2006, at Fluno Center, in Madison. Speaker Ms. Isabelle Boutillon will be in Madison from Geneva, Switzerland, the headquarters of the World Intellectual Property Organization. As Madison’s economy grows in a global marketplace, knowledge of topics such as the Patent Cooperation Treaty are increasingly important to the successful creation of real wealth for businesses, individuals and the greater Madison community.

The World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is an international organization dedicated to promoting the use and protection of works of the human spirit. These works of intellectual property are expanding the bounds of science and technology and enriching the world of the arts. Headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, WIPO is one of 16 specialized agencies of the United Nations. WIPO administers 23 international treaties dealing with different aspects of intellectual property protection, including the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT).

Ms. Isabelle Boutillon, Director of PCT Global Outreach Division, will provide an overview of the PCT and the only international patent filing system for inventions. In 2005 alone, 134,000 patent applications were filed in 128 countries.
