Nationally acclaimed restaurant will open amid a flurry of improvements that will bring new life to one of Milwaukee’s most recognized buildings

Milwaukee, WI — September 19, 2005 — The Ruess Federal Plaza building at 310 W. Wisconsin Avenue announced today that it has reached a lease agreement with the nationally acclaimed steakhouse, The Capital Grille. The announcement comes following a flurry of activity which includes renovations to the building’s spacious first floor lobby, facade and the building’s plaza.

“Milwaukee has long sought to secure one of a handful of internationally known premium steakhouse restaurants for its downtown and that day has now arrived,” said David Boerke from Grubb & Ellis/The Boerke Company, whose company serves as the leasing agent for the building. “It is particularly fitting that they have chosen 310 W. Wisconsin Ave. from among the many competing retail sites downtown. New investment is transforming this building into a truly class A office facility with the best amenities available anywhere downtown. This should also be seen as an affirmation of equally significant west of the river investments including the Grand Avenue Mall, the new Hampton Inn and a wide variety of new local restaurants,” Boerke said.

The 310 W. Wisconsin Avenue building known for its striking blue exterior and that once housed primarily government offices, is undergoing a rebirth and will be the key office component of a renaissance happening on the west side of downtown anchored by the Midwest Airlines Center.

“The changes to the facade and to the first floor lobby are going to provide a dramatic change to one of Milwaukee’s already well-known buildings,” said Joe Weirick of Polacheck Management, who manages the building. “Using only the highest standards and quality materials, we are transforming 310 W. Wisconsin Avenue into one of Milwaukee’s premiere office destinations.”

“The improvements at 310 W. Wisconsin and the addition of The Capital Grille add another great dining option to our expanding and diverse restaurant mix,” said Doug Neilson, president & CEO of VISIT Milwaukee. “It’s great to have an established and nationally recognizable name such as The Capital Grille when we’re working with meeting planners to market Milwaukee for meetings, conventions and leisure travel.”

“I’m thrilled that another restaurant believes in Milwaukee’s downtown vitality and growth in recent years. I welcome Capital Grille and wish them much success,” said Mayor Tom Barrett.

Alderman Bob Bauman, who represents the district said, “We’re excited to have The Capital Grille join the excitement on West Wisconsin Avenue. It’s a first class, nationally renowned restaurant that adds to the choices offered our growing base of downtown residents, business people, and visitors.”

The Milwaukee restaurant will join over 20 other Capital Grille restaurants across the country in cities such as Washington, D.C., Boston, Minneapolis, Las Vegas, Denver and New York.
