Planet Propaganda: Tasteful Packaging for Candinas Chocolatier Appeals to Consumer and Creative Palates

Madison, Wis. (July 2005) – Planet Propaganda’s package designs for artisan chocolate maker Candinas Chocolatier will be featured in American Institute of Graphic Arts annual anthology 365: AIGA Year in Design 26, archived online at www.aiga.org, and displayed at the National Design Center in New York, at the Denver Art Museum and as part of a nationally traveling exhibit.

A small company located in Verona, Wis., Candinas Chocolatier’s founder and Swiss-trained confectioner Markus Candinas says he is dedicated to composing the finest chocolates “by using the finest ingredients, domestic and imported, and without resorting to artifice or gimmickry, but rather by letting the taste of our creations speak for themselves. It is because of this that we decided to package our confections not in the usual shiny gold or black boxes, but rather something more individual and refined. It may not be the typical box, but then we wouldn’t consider having such an untypical chocolate in anything else but an untypical package.”

Propaganda’s brand manager Greg Wold agrees, “Opening the packaging should feel like opening a special gift. It needs to reflect the unique quality of the chocolates and appeal to those looking for something special. Not simply a tasty sweet, but a chocolate experience. It’s construction and feel must directly reflect the high quality of the chocolates.”

To achieve this sensibility, Planet’s design team carefully considered Candinas’ package structure as well as its aesthetics. Die-cuts and sleeves were used to create a layered feel and materials selected to elicit a tactile quality. “The layered contrasting patterns also helped create a textured feel to complement the complex flavors of the chocolates,” adds Wold.

Planet’s package designs for Candinas Chocolatier were revealed in 2004 and earned the attention of the Fine Living Network’s Selects chocolate feature. For more information on Candinas, please visit http://www.candinas.com.
