PIC: Hurr Earns Designation of Certified Professional In Healthcare Risk Management

MADISON, Wis. – Physicians Insurance Company of Wisconsin (PIC WISCONSIN) today announced that Wanda L. Hurr has earned the designation of Certified Professional in Healthcare Risk Management (CPHRM) from the American Hospital Association (AHA) Certification Center. Hurr serves as a risk management consultant and interim co-technical leader of risk management.

“Wanda has recently taken a leadership role in guiding our risk management efforts at PIC WISCONSIN and we are pleased that all of her experience and efforts have been formally recognized by earning this significant designation,” said Kerry Kravik, vice president, risk financing, of PIC WISCONSIN. “The CPHRM certification just reaffirms Wanda’s skill and abilities and will allow PIC WISCONSIN to continue providing all of our clients with high-quality risk management advice and assistance.”

The CPHRM designation is a national credential that recognizes individuals as being among the elite in the field of health care risk management. To earn the designation, Hurr had to satisfy eligibility requirements that include work experience and education components, agree to adhere to Professional Standards of Conduct and pass the CPHRM Exam.

Prior to her current position, Hurr served as director of quality and risk management for a hospital system in Milwaukee and served as the director of quality/risk management/chief HIPAA privacy-compliance officer for Planned Parenthood Wisconsin. In addition, Hurr was a partner in the Milwaukee law firms of Michael Best & Friedrich, Davis & Kuelthau, and Purtell & Roper. She also served as the director of legal services for the Wisconsin Health Care Association, Inc. She is a registered nurse and has worked in an emergency department and in critical care nursing.

Hurr is a member of the National Association of Healthcare Quality, the American Society of Healthcare Risk Management, and the State Bar of Wisconsin. In addition, she is a charter member of the American Association of Nurse Attorneys and past president and co-founder of the Wisconsin Chapter of the American Association of Nurse Attorneys. Hurr has also authored several publications.

Hurr earned her bachelor’s and RN degrees from Purdue University and her law degree from the Indiana University School of Law. She is a resident of Shorewood, Wisconsin.
