Milwaukee, WI (July 19, 2005) – With more than 15 years of clinical and leadership experience as a Registered Nurse, Katherine A. Kuchan, the former Director of Clinical Risk Management for Covenant Healthcare, Inc. – Elmbrook Memorial Hospital, has joined Michael Best & Friedrich LLP as an associate in the Health Care Practice Group. Ms. Kuchan is a graduate of Marquette University Law School and the College of Nursing. She also earned her Master’s Degree in Nursing from UW-Madison. Ms. Kuchan focuses her practice primarily in the areas of health care risk management, regulatory compliance, survey and licensure matters, and health care contracting.
“My dual qualifications as both a nurse and an attorney provides me with the practical understanding my clients need and allows me to very effectively identify critical issues and advocate on their behalf,” says Kuchan.

Ms. Kuchan has substantial experience in civil litigation matters focusing on the defense of health care providers, hospitals and long term care facilities. She also represents health professionals in licensing and disciplinary matters. Katherine regularly participates in presentations for nurses, physicians and other health care providers on issues of informed consent, risk reduction and documentation.
She is a member of the Wisconsin Bar Association – Health Law Section and Young Lawyers Division, the American and Wisconsin Societies of Healthcare Risk Management, The American Association of Nurse Attorneys – Wisconsin Organizing Chapter, and Sigma Theta Tau – an international nursing honor society. Katherine also holds active licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Wisconsin.
