Madison, Wisconsin (June 24, 2005). The law firm of Godfrey & Kahn, S.C. has announced the addition of Colin L. Fairman to the Intellectual Practice Group in its Madison office, LaFollette Godfrey & Kahn. He offers a unique business perspective based on his more than 15 years of scientific experience.

Fairman’s practice focuses on identification, acquisition, enforcement, prosecution and licensing of intellectual property, with a particular emphasis in biotechnology and nanotechnology. His work includes client counseling and patent prosecution in matters such as pharmaceuticals, biomedical prosthetics, treatment methods, instrumentation, microscopy, lasers, optics and nanosignal acquisition.

Prior to joining the firm, Fairman was a research scientist in the areas of molecular biology, ion channel characterization and metabolic and cardiovascular physiology. Before pursuing graduate studies, he worked in the industry as an analytical chemist with a particular emphasis on EPA superfund toxic site analysis.

Fairman received his law degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School and a Ph.D. in biomedical sciences (human physiology) from the University of Hawaii, John A. Burns School of Medicine. He received his bachelor’s degree in biology from James Madison University. Fairman is admitted to practice with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, the Wisconsin Supreme Court and the Western District of Wisconsin.
