Governor Jim Doyle praised the outstanding design and
construction services of five Wisconsin firms and one individual today by
presenting them with the Governor’s Award for Outstanding Design and
Construction Services. The awards recognize exemplary work on state building
projects. The Governor distributed the awards at a meeting of the State
Building Commission in Madison.
“This year’s award winners showed a remarkable commitment to
their craft and produced facilities the people of Wisconsin will enjoy for
generations to come,” Governor Doyle said. “State facilities are an
important investment in our state’s future, and I am proud to recognize the
hard work that went into them with the Governor’s Award.”
The following firms and individuals were recognized for
their achievements:
* Excellence in Sustainable Design and Construction – Berners-Schober,
Inc. of Green Bay
The first year for this category, Berners-Schober
was recognized for their work on the Department of Natural Resources
Northeast Region Headquarters in Howard. The sustainability award is
presented to a firm involved in the design and/or construction of a state
building demonstrating and achieving sustainability goals.
* Excellence in Architectural Design – KEE Architecture of Madison
KEE Architecture won a Governor’s Award for their
design of the Pioneer Student and Technology Center on the University of
Wisconsin-Platteville campus.
* Excellence in Engineering Design – Arnold & O’Sheridan, Inc. of
Brookfield
The firm was recognized for their work on the
Waukesha State Office Building addition and remodeling project.
* Excellence in Construction – Miron Construction Company, Inc. of
Neenah
Miron Construction received an award for their work
on the Southeast Recreational Facility (SERF) at the University of
Wisconsin-Madison.
* Excellence in Construction – J.H. Findorff & Son, Inc. of Madison
The other Excellence in Construction Award was
presented to J.H.Findorff & Son, Inc. of Madison for their work on the
Health Sciences Learning Center on the UW-Madison campus.
* Excellence in Service – Jerry Walters, Engineering Specialist at
UW-Stevens Point
The only individual receiving an award, Jerry
Walters was recognized for his excellent administration and management of
construction projects on the Stevens Point campus.
All firms and individuals involved in state building
construction projects are eligible for the awards. Winners are selected by
a panel of professionals, assembled by the Department of Administration’s
Division of State Facilities, who reviews all projects nominated for the
honor. Winners receive plaques recognizing their achievements from Governor
Doyle.
