MADISON – Department of Commerce Secretary Mary P. Burke today announced the
selection of Magda Völker as Director of Wisconsin’s Trade Office in São
Paulo, Brazil.

“Magda Völker is a welcome addition to the Trade Office because of her
extensive international trade experience,” said Secretary Burke. “Völker
also brings her experiences and wisdom from having served as a liaison
between Brazil and Maryland and Connecticut.”

Prior to working at the Brazil office, Völker worked for over 15 years in
international trade promotion with the US Foreign Commercial Service in São
Paulo. She initiated the operations of MV Marketing and Consulting Services
in São Paulo to offer high quality services to foreign companies interested
in doing business in Brazil. Völker received a degree in Social Sciences at
the Catholic University of São Paulo.

The Wisconsin Trade Office in Sao Paulo is operated under the auspices of
the Council of Great Lakes Governors and provides export assistance services
to businesses in Indiana, New York, Ohio, and Wisconsin. The office assists
Wisconsin exporters by conducting distributor searches, client searches, and
market studies as requested. It also provides customs and regulatory
assistance, act as a liaison to local government officials and refer state
companies to lawyers, interpreters, credit companies, and other professional
services as needed.

Wisconsin’s total exports to Brazil in 2004 amounted to $158 million,
representing a 50-percent increase over the previous year.
