MADISON–Wisconsin manufacturers of boats and boat components looking to explore the Chinese market will want to attend a networking reception with a Chinese boat-buying delegation to be held November 3 from 1:00-5:30 p.m. at the Milwaukee Yacht Club, 1700 N. Lincoln Dr., Milwaukee.

“China’s rapid economic growth has created a strong market for recreational products,” said Department of Commerce (Commerce) Secretary Mary P. Burke. “I encourage Wisconsin companies in this industry to take advantage of this sales and marketing opportunity.”

A delegation of Chinese buyers interested in pleasure boats and accessories will tour Wisconsin from Nov. 3-5. The delegation is composed of 30 marina developers, boat/yacht manufacturers, and potential agents and China Boat Association representatives. Commerce is organizing business appointments at the reception. Companies interested in meeting with members of the delegation should contact Beng Yeap, Commerce, 608/ 266-1480, byeap@commerce.state.wi.us.

China has 90,000 lakes and over 11,000 miles of coastline. Boating is becoming a popular leisure activity in China. In September 2005, the US Foreign Commercial Service issued a report on recreational boating market opportunities for U.S. business.
