Dept. of Commerce: Commerce Secretary Mary P. Burke Visits Briggs & Stratton Facilities in Jefferson and Watertown

WATERTOWN-Department of Commerce Secretary Mary P. Burke today met with
Vince Shiely, vice president and general manager of Briggs & Stratton
Corporation’s Home Products Division, and toured company facilities in
Jefferson and Watertown. Secretary Burke was in Jefferson County as part of
Governor Jim Doyle’s Capital for a Day trip to Dodge and Jefferson Counties.

“Briggs & Stratton Corporation is already a major employer in Jefferson
County, with a thriving plant in Jefferson employing 1,100 workers,”
Secretary Burke said. “The company is expanding into Watertown and offering
good job opportunities at that facility. I salute Briggs & Stratton
Corporation for providing good jobs and investment in Wisconsin communities
since 1908.”

In Watertown, Briggs & Stratton Corporation occupies 160,000 sq. ft. of a
facility previously operated by Johnson Controls. The plant employs 100
