Focus on Energy Grant will add to ongoing conservation efforts at the Zoo

Madison – Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk today highlighted several ongoing energy conservation programs at Henry Vilas Zoo, the most recent of which is the county’s application for a grant from the state Focus on Energy program for conservation efforts in the Herpetarium and Administration building.

“Many thanks to Focus on Energy for this $1,250.00 grant,” said Falk. “This grant will help implement boiler replacement projects and install new condensing units.”

The grant is the latest in a series of ongoing programs to improve conservation and energy efficiency at the Zoo. Other recent efforts include the generous donation by Madison Gas & Electric Company’s (MG & E) of electrical cable replacement and the county’s installation of a photovoltaic array that produces electricity by collecting energy from the sun.

“Energy conservation not only saves the county money,” said Falk, “but in addition, these programs are another way Dane County can demonstrate energy conservation works.”
