Notice of Potential Short-Term Noise Impacts

Kaukauna, WI—April 28, 2005. Calpine Corporation is initiating startup and testing procedures at its Fox Energy Center, located between Highways 41 and 96 in Kaukauna. Part of this process will include the release of high-pressure steam, which may be noticeable to nearby neighbors and passersby.

“Steam blows are a normal and necessary procedure to test and clean the new generating unit’s piping systems. We have installed mufflers to minimize noise impacts, but local residents may hear or see the escaping steam during this period,” noted Fox Energy Center Plant Manager Jonathan Nyson.

Nyson added that steam blows are limited to this phase of construction, and sound levels are not indicative of normal power plant operations. Steam blows are expected to begin this weekend and could last several days.

Nyson said he is confident that neighbors will find the Fox Energy Center to be “a clean, quiet and unobtrusive neighbor” once it is in operation.
