Blue Cross Blue Shield of Wisconsin: Compcareblue awarded top ncqa accreditation

MILWAUKEE, Wis. – CompcareBlue, the HMO subsidiary of Blue Cross
Blue Shield of Wisconsin (BCBSWi), announced today that it was
awarded “Excellent” Accreditation status for its commercial HMO and
POS products from the National Committee for Quality Assurance
(NCQA). “Excellent” is the highest rating possible and is granted
to plans that have programs for service and clinical quality that
meet or exceed NCQA’s rigorous standards for consumer protection and
quality improvement.

“Earning ‘Excellent’ Accreditation reflects a health plan’s ability
to work with their members and their physicians to improve the
quality of clinical care,” said NCQA’s president, Margaret E.
O’Kane. “It shows that they are building the kinds of partnerships
that are critical to delivering great care and great service.”

NCQA is an independent, not-for-profit organization that assesses
and reports on the quality of the nation’s managed care plans. The
NCQA survey included on-site and off-site evaluations of more than
60 standards and selected HEDIS® (Health Plan Employer Data and
Information Set) performance measures, conducted by a team of
physicians and managed care experts. NCQA’s oversight committee
analyzed the team’s findings and assigned an accreditation level
based on the performance level of the plan compared to its
standards.

“NCQA accreditation signifies the successful completion of a
thorough review of our organization,” said Lowell Keppel, M.D.,
BCBSWi’s medical director. “NCQA provided an independent, objective
and meticulous review of our plan. By awarding CompcareBlue
‘Excellent’ Accreditation status, NCQA recognizes the high level of
service that we provide our members.”
