Charles “Buck” Sweeney Joins Axley Brynelson, LLP

Madison, WI –3/22/05 Axley Brynelson LLP, one Madison’s oldest and largest law firms, announced today that Charles V. “Buck” Sweeney has joined the firm as a partner in the Business Practice Group. Mr. Sweeney focuses his legal practice in the areas of environmental and construction law. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Sweeney practiced in the Madison office of a large, Milwaukee-based law firm for over 20 years.

“We are very pleased to have Buck Sweeney join Axley as an equity partner and continue to add to our growing business legal practice,” commented Michael Anderson, the firm’s Managing Partner. “Buck Sweeney’s hands-on experience with construction processes and his in-depth knowledge of environmental law issues have made him a trusted advisor to his clients for the past 20 years. His insight regarding technical matters relating to RCRA, Superfund, air and water issues will be invaluable in helping businesses and municipalities navigate complicated and potentially expensive compliance problems.”

“Since Axley has a long-established history, rich culture and is well respected throughout Wisconsin, I was naturally drawn to the firm,” said Mr. Sweeney. “This is a great opportunity for me and also is in the best interests of our clients. Businesses and municipalities face complex real estate, land and resource matters, as well as environmental challenges. Advising on these issues has always been a core strength for Axley and I am delighted to be able to join the team, continue to manage my legal practice and grow the firm.”

Mr. Sweeney is admitted to practice law in the State Courts of Wisconsin and Indiana, the United States Supreme Court, the United States District Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and the Federal Courts in Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. He is a licensed professional engineer and was named among “The Best Lawyers in Construction Law” in the latest edition of “Best Lawyers in America.” Mr. Sweeney is also a former Chair of the State Bar of Wisconsin Construction and Public Contract Law Section, former director of the Aggregate Producers of Wisconsin, former director of the Wisconsin Transportation Builders Association, and former Commissioner of the Rock-Koshkonong Lake District. He received a B.S. degree in civil engineering from the University of Notre Dame and a J.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin Law School.
