TomoTherapy, Inc. was officially founded in 1997 by Thomas Rockwell Mackie, a leading medical physicist, and Paul J. Reckwerdt, an accomplished mathematician and software engineer. Thomas “Rock” Mackie, Ph.D., will address Accelerate Madison’s audience on these themes:

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Thomas Rockwell Mackie, Ph.D.
Co-Founder, Chairman of the Board, and Director of Research
TomoTherapy, Inc.

Dr. Thomas “Rock” Mackie continues his work as a Full Professor in the departments of Medical Physics and Human Oncology at UW-Madison. He is a leading figure in the field of radiation therapy and is the primary inventor and algorithm designer of the tomotherapy concept. Dr. Mackie leads the Tomotherapy Research Group, officially established in 1994, which is one of the largest in the field of Medical Physics and one of the most widely published radiotherapy physics groups in the world.

Dr. Mackie was also a co-founder of Geometrics Corporation (now merged with ADAC Corp.), which developed and commercialized a radiotherapy treatment planning system (Pinnacle®) originally developed within his research group. Dr. Mackie received his undergraduate degree in Physics from the University of Saskatchewan, and then went on to earn his doctorate in Physics at the University of Alberta in Edmonton before landing in Madison.
